Superman III?

What do you guys think -- does it make sense for me to get a laserdisc player and a letterboxed LD of Superman III and make a DVD copy to have the movie before it was 'corrected' for the DVD release?

Definitely. You know sometimes while watching STM I miss the green suit in those couple of scenes. LOL

How was Superman III corrected for the DVD release?

I don't know the technical specifics of how it was done, but to remove the wires holding Reeve up in some of the flying shots they essentially bleached out the sky on film. On the DVD the video was 'restored' and the process was undone (or perhaps they found the original negative that didn't feature the effect), and the wires are now visible in many shots. On the "look up in the sky" documentary, they actually feature the shot of superman taking off after saving Ricky the way it was supposed to be (if I recall correctly).

Anyone have a weird strobe effect where Superman lands with Ricky. My DVD does, and I downloaded a HD version of SMIII and it has it too. Just wondered if it's a problem with the transfer.

D'oh! I wonder if the wires could be removed by fans the same way scratches are being removed from the 16mm print on the Superman: RIC project? One frame at a time. Tedious, but it would be worth it for the improved S3 transfer. Assuming it could be done, that is. Either way, the original laserdisc version should be preserved as well.

ckent if you're going to put SIII on DVD from the LD I have an STM ws LD you could also transfer. I'd love to have a copy of the original prin... green suit scratched film an all. Sometimes I miss those scratches while watching the newly restored DVD version. Ahhh nostalgia.

I'm in no rush to do it, I'll just let google alert me when a really cheap & good laserdisc player comes on craigslist.
I wouldn't want you to part with your STM LD. I can probably get both STM & SIII in letterbox in a cheap bulk lot if I wait long enough.
